Levittown hangs on to eliminate Brownsville, TX and advance to the Championship

Final Score: Brownsville, TX  4     Levittown, Puerto Rico  7  

Levittown Puerto Rico’s starter Luis A. Rivera had some trouble with his command to start the game allowing a single and three consecutive walks to give Brownsville, Texas a 1-0 lead. Rivera was able to minimize the damage to just one run by striking out the side to end the top of the first.

Puerto Rico responded nicely in the bottom half of the first. Collecting a walk, an error, and three singles to jump out to a 3-1 lead heading into the second inning.

After a scoreless inning from both teams in the second, Levittown busted out the bats again. They scored another three runs on multiple hits, highlighted by Juan Montero’s 2 RBI triple. Doubling their score to 6 and obtaining a 
five run lead. Levittown, Puerto Rico seemed to have control of the game.

They kept control thanks to great pitching and stellar defense. Levittown, Puerto Rico held Brownsville, Texas to only 1 run on 2 hits for the next two innings. However, Puerto Rico ran into trouble in the top of the sixth inning when pinch-hitter for Brownsville, Sandalio Garcia Jr. punched a ball over the leftfielder’s head for a 2 RBI double to bring Brownsville, Texas within two with just an inning and a half left to play.

That wasn’t enough for Brownsville, Texas as Levittown advances to the Championship matchup. They will await the winner of Southern Illinois/Seoul, Korea in the Championship. As for 
Brownsville, this was the end of their tournament run. Congratulations on a great season and tournament and good luck in the future!
