Brownsville, TX takes advantage of the Netherlands miscues to advance in the Colt World Series
Final Score: Brownsville, TX 3 The Netherlands 2
Brownsville, Texas came out firing in the top of the first inning. The leadoff batter Rafael Capistran hit a double to get things started for Texas. He then came around to score after back to back singles by Garza and Ramirez.
It didn’t take long for The Netherlands to respond. Clean-up hitter Ruendrick Piternella hit a triple into the deepest part of the ballpark in left-center field scoring Darryl Collins all the way from first. Texas pitching then shuts down The Netherlands as they were not able to bring Piternella in from third.
In the second inning, The Netherlands starter was able to keep Texas off the board in the top of the second inning to set his team up to take the lead in the bottom of the second. They did just that, after a leadoff single by Nick Hofer, Tyriq Kemp was able to bring him in with an RBI single.
After the second inning, things settled down for a while until the fifth inning. Texas, down by one, gets a double from Germain Castillo putting him is scoring position. Two batters later Capistran drives him in with an infield single that bounced off the diving shortstop’s glove. This tied the score at 2-2.
That would be it for Texas in the fifth inning, but they got right back to work in the top of the sixth. Garza again helping out his team with a leadoff double to start the sixth, he was then advanced to third on a passed ball, followed by a wild pitch letting him score and giving Brownsville, Texas a 3-2 lead.
Brownsville, Texas’ bullpen, and defense took it from there. With 1.2 scoreless innings and an amazing 3-6 double play from the defense to end the ballgame.
Brownsville, Texas will now advance and play Puerto Rico at 10:00am CT on August 7th. The defending champs the Netherlands are now eliminated from the tournament, congratulations on a great season!
